He Created Them Male and Female
April 07, 2008
At the risk of sounding inappropriate, don’t you think the signs outside of public restrooms are pretty important? One reads “MEN” and the other one reads “WOMEN”, they present information that is pretty vital when you are out in public. These signs assume that when you arrive at the door, you already know the answer to the prior unasked question, “which sex am I?”
I know which one I am, I am a man, and I have known this fact from a very early age in life. It was not something I picked out, my parents based upon my physical makeup taught me that I was a male. With that followed a life of being raised as a male and more importantly, a man.
Earlier this year, “the Terminator” Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California signed a bill into law that “establishes a new definition for “sex,” threatens references to “mom” and “dad” and could restrict the presentation of scientific evidence to students.”(1)
The new law replaces the old definition of “sex” which was:
“Sex” means the biological condition or quality of being a male or female human being.
The new definition:
“Gender” means sex, and includes a person’s gender identity and gender related appearance and behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at birth. (2)
At this point, the repercussions of such a decision can only be speculated, but the future implications are clear. With California being the largest purchaser of school textbooks and an anticipated rewording of those textbooks coming, the impact will be felt nation wide. Bob Unruh from WorldNetDaily, “No matter how traditional a community may be, school officials would find themselves faced with the same religious, moral and social biases instituted in California reflected in their textbooks.” Some of the immediate textbook changes could be the changing of words such as “mom” and “dad” and “husband” and “wife” to more neutral terms.
Additionally, other areas of school life would eventually be altered… · Cheerleading and sports teams would have to be gender-neutral. · Prom kings and queens would be banned, or if featured, would have to be gender neutral so that the king could be female and the queen male. · Gender-neutral bathrooms could be required for those confused about their gender identity.
A male who believes he really is female would be allowed into the women’s restroom, and a woman believing herself a male would be allowed into a men’s room. Even scientific information, such has statistics showing AIDS rates in the homosexual community or statistics relating to births or deaths among various cultural groups, could be banned.
Are we such a fragile or selfish people that we cannot accept the God given attributes and physical makeup we have been created with? What kind of rebellious heart looks at his maker and shakes his fist at him?
In light of Governor Schwarzenegger’s questionable wisdom, Jesus has words for us, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE.” (Matthew 19:4 NAS)
Here, Jesus not only speaks to the Pharisees, but to us today; go back to the beginning when man and woman were first created. Here we can see the hand of God uniquely creating man and woman for a special purpose and a special work. Men and women are different in their physical abilities, the way they work and how they think. Knowing who we are and that we were created for a unique purpose is so important in life. A purpose that is far higher than we can determine upon our own.
The Psalmist reminds us…
“For you formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, When I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Your eyes have seen my unformed substance, and in your book were written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.” Psalm 139:13-16
We don’t choose who we are, we discover who God created us to be.
In an article from the Alliance Defense Fund the writer states, “The new law redefines a student’s sex as his or her “gender identity,” relying upon a student’s feelings about whether the student is male or female rather than his or her biological sex.”
We cannot make decisions about life only upon how we think or feel about our gender, we must know the truth that comes from God’s Word about how He ordained life to be.
Positions, such as this one from Govenor Schwzenagger, attack not only purpose, but our identity. Isn’t this one of the great questions of humanity, “who am I?” A question only our maker can answer.
Please pray for your local school leaders that they will make Godly decisions and have the courage to stand for truth.
